South West CDC – a district formed on 24 November 2001

The South West Community Development Council was formed on 24 November 2001 as one of five CDCs set up across Singapore to help administer national policies and schemes locally, funded in part by the government while free to raise funds of its own. Spanning the south-western region, the district covers about a third of the island's land area and is home to some 220,000 households and over 750,000 residents. It is marked by a high concentration of industrial estates, including Jurong Island and the Tuas area, alongside its housing towns.
