Diego Martin – from regional corporation to borough
Diego Martin's most recent turning point came in November 2020, when it was announced that the area, together with Siparia, would be elevated to borough status in 2021; the former Diego Martin Regional Corporation thus became the Diego Martin Borough Corporation. Covering 127.53 square kilometres in the north-west of Trinidad, the area takes in Carenage on the coast, the valley settlements of Diego Martin and Maraval, and part of Saint James. Its valleys running down from the Northern Range have shaped where people built, farmed and later commuted. Today it is a largely residential district close to the capital. Members are warmly invited to add their own memories, photographs and family stories.
