Couva–Tabaquite–Talparo – Trinidad's central heartland on the Gulf of Paria
Couva–Tabaquite–Talparo is the third largest of Trinidad and Tobago's nine regions, covering 723 square kilometres from the Gulf of Paria coast into the island's central hills and farmland. Its regional capital and commercial centre is Couva, long a hub for the surrounding sugar and cocoa country, and the coastal strip at Point Lisas later became one of the country's principal industrial estates. Inland, Tabaquite and Talparo remain more rural, with villages set among forest and small farms. At the 2011 census the region counted 178,410 residents, making it one of the most populous parts of Trinidad. We would be delighted if members added their own memories, photographs and family stories.
