San Fernando – Trinidad's southern city, chartered in 1988

San Fernando's defining moment in recent times came on 18 November 1988, when the former borough was elevated to the status of a city corporation, confirming its role as the capital of southern Trinidad. Compact at just 19 square kilometres, the city sits on the Gulf of Paria between the Guaracara River to the north and the Oropouche River to the south, with San Fernando Hill rising above the rooftops as its best-known landmark. Known affectionately as Sando, it is today the island's most populous city and a busy commercial centre for the whole south, guided by its motto "Sanitas Fortis". Members are warmly invited to share their own memories and photographs of the city.
