Siparia – Trinidad and Tobago's newest borough, declared in 2023
Siparia's most recent milestone came in 2023, when it was declared a borough together with Diego Martin, making it the fifth and newest borough in the country and the southernmost of them all. The step had been announced in November 2020 and confirmed the growth of a district that had long been governed as a regional corporation, with its headquarters in Siparia itself. The borough takes in Cedros at the island's south-western tip, the oilfield town of Fyzabad, La Brea with its famous Pitch Lake, Santa Flora and South Oropouche. Today it combines coastal villages, farmland and energy industry. We would be glad to see members add their own memories and photographs here.
