Mayaro–Rio Claro – Trinidad's east coast of long beaches and energy
Mayaro–Rio Claro stretches across 852.81 square kilometres of eastern Trinidad, from the farming country around Rio Claro to the long Atlantic beaches at Mayaro that draw visitors from across the island. Its coast and offshore waters hold the country's largest reservoirs of natural gas and crude oil, and the region has become central to the national energy industry. Within it lies the Ortoire Block, an exploration area of 184 square kilometres where Trinidad's largest onshore natural gas discovery was made in the Ortoire syncline.
