Sangre Grande – Trinidad's largest region, reaching to Toco
Sangre Grande is the largest region of Trinidad and Tobago by area, covering 898.94 square kilometres of the island's north-east. From the busy market town of Sangre Grande, which gives the region its name and hosts the Regional Corporation, roads lead out to Guaico, Valencia and on to Toco at the island's north-eastern tip. Forest, cocoa and coconut estates and a long, sparsely settled Atlantic coastline have shaped life here, and the region remains one of the greenest and least urbanised parts of Trinidad. Its council was expanded by one additional electoral district for the 2013–2016 term. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and stories of the north-east.
