Arima – the borough that petitioned Queen Victoria in 1887

Arima owes its distinctive title to 1887, when the town petitioned Queen Victoria for municipal status as part of the celebrations for her Golden Jubilee; it has been the Royal Chartered Borough of Arima ever since, and has been coterminous with the Town of Arima since 1888. The borough lies at the southern foothills of the Northern Range, next to Arouca and Sangre Grande, with the Caroni–Arena Dam to the south. It is the easternmost and second largest in area of the country's boroughs and, with 33,606 residents counted in 2011, the fourth largest municipality by population. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and family stories of Arima.
