Saint George – the parish of Kingstown, capital of the country

Saint George is the parish that holds Kingstown, the largest settlement on the island and the capital of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, which has made it the centre of government, trade and shipping for the whole country. Situated in the most southerly part of the island of Saint Vincent, it covers 52 square kilometres, the third largest parish by area, yet it is by far the most populous: the 2000 census counted about 52,400 residents, some 44 per cent of the national population on only 13 per cent of the land, making it the most densely settled parish as well. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and family stories.
