Charlotte – the largest parish, on the windward coast

Charlotte is the largest parish of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, covering 149 square kilometres along the eastern, windward coast of the main island; it is bigger than the three smallest parishes combined and has the longest coastline of them all. Its landscape is rough and rugged, with very little flat land even near the sea, and parts of the north cannot be reached by a main road at all, so many communities have long looked to the sea and to narrow coastal tracks. Farming on the steep valley slopes and fishing from black-sand beaches have shaped daily life here, and it remains the second most populous parish. Share your memories with fellow members.
