Gagaʻifomauga – the villages of Savaiʻi's northern coast
Gagaʻifomauga stretches along the northern side of Savaiʻi and takes in the village communities of Aopo, Lefagaoaliʻi, Manase, Safune, Safotu, Samauga and Sasina; Aopo was traditionally the main village of the district, while Manase, Safotu, Sasina and Safune lie by the sea. That division between inland and coastal settlements still shapes daily life, from plantations on the volcanic slopes to fishing and, in recent years, small beach fale accommodation. The 2016 census counted 4,878 residents, making it one of the smaller districts of the island. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and family stories from Gagaʻifomauga here.
