Satupaʻitea – a village district on the south-east coast of Savaiʻi

Satupaʻitea is a large village district with four sub-villages on the south-eastern coast of Savaiʻi, the biggest island of Samoa. In the country's modern political divisions it is also an itumalo, one of eleven political districts, and it now takes in the traditional area of Salega, an arrangement that joined two long-established communities under one district. Life here follows the rhythms of the coast and the plantations behind it: taro, coconut and breadfruit gardens on the volcanic soils, fishing from the reef, and village affairs guided by the matai who hold the family titles. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and family stories from Satupaʻitea here.
