Vaʻa-o-Fonoti – the small district around Fagaloa Bay
Vaʻa-o-Fonoti is the least populated district in Samoa and, after Aiga-i-le-Tai, the second smallest by area: just 38 square kilometres with 1,621 residents at the 2016 census. It lies on the north-east coast of Upolu and consists of a main area around Fagaloa Bay, with nine villages set between steep forested ridges and the sea, plus a small coastal exclave about ten kilometres to the north-west around the village of Faleāpuna. Surrounded entirely by the larger district of Atua, it includes areas of significant conservation and cultural value. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and family stories from Vaʻa-o-Fonoti.
