Muchinga Province – Zambia's newest province, created in 2011
Muchinga is the youngest of Zambia's ten provinces: its creation was announced by President Michael Sata in October 2011, the first provincial minister was appointed in November of that year, and parliament approved it afterwards. It was assembled from five districts, Chama from the Eastern Province and Chinsali, Isoka, Mpika and Nakonde from the Northern Province. In 2013 Mafinga and Shiwang'andu were created, and in 2017 Mpika was split into three, adding Kanchibiya and Lavushimanda, named after the national park, bringing the total to nine districts. The name comes from the Muchinga Escarpment on which the province mostly sits, and the administrative centre is Chinsali. Share your memories here.
