Northern Province – Kasama and the shores of Lake Tanganyika
The Northern Province covers roughly one-sixth of Zambia's land area, reaching from the Bemba heartland around Kasama, its provincial capital, to the port of Mpulungu on Lake Tanganyika, the country's only harbour on that great lake. Near Mbala lie the Kalambo Falls, among the highest uninterrupted waterfalls in Africa and the site of one of the most important archaeological sequences on the continent, with traces of human occupation reaching back many thousands of years. The province is made up of twelve districts, of which only Kasama and Mbala have municipal council status. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, photographs and family stories from the north.
