West End – district life at Anguilla's western end

West End is one of Anguilla's fourteen districts, with 813 residents at the 2011 census. It lies at the western end of the island, a low and dry coral island in the Caribbean whose people have always looked outward to the sea, to fishing, boats and trade with neighbouring islands. Life in the district has long been organised around family yards, churches and the road that links one settlement to the next, with many households shaped by work abroad and by returning generations. Today West End is known above all for its beaches and its calm pace. Tell us what West End was like in your childhood, and share the photographs you have kept.
