Sandy Hill – everyday island life in one of Anguilla's districts

Sandy Hill is one of Anguilla's fourteen districts, with 636 residents at the 2011 census. Life here reflects the island as a whole: a flat coral island in the Caribbean, ringed by clear water and beaches, where fishing, boats and, in more recent decades, hospitality have provided a living. Communities of a few hundred people keep their own traditions of music, cooking and celebration, and neighbours still look out for one another in ways that larger places have lost. Today Sandy Hill is a peaceful residential corner of the island. Your memories are part of its record, so share your stories, family names and photographs with us.
