Island Harbour – a seafaring name among Anguilla's fourteen districts
Island Harbour is one of the fourteen districts of Anguilla and had 988 residents at the 2011 census. Its name points to the sea, and the sea has shaped the community: like the rest of this low coral island in the Caribbean, Island Harbour grew with fishing, boat work and trade across the water to neighbouring islands. Communities of this size hold their history in families and shared traditions rather than in archives, in boats and recipes and in the stories of those who worked abroad and came back. Today it remains one of the island's most characterful communities. Tell us what Island Harbour means to you and share your memories.
