George Hill – a residential district of everyday Anguillian life
George Hill is one of Anguilla's fourteen districts, with 879 residents at the 2011 census. Like every district on this low, dry coral island in the Caribbean, it grew as a community of families rather than as a planned settlement, with churches, schools and small businesses at its heart and the sea never far away. Fishing, boat-building, the building trades and work overseas shaped the lives of earlier generations, and many households still carry those connections across the water. Today George Hill is a lively residential district. Share your memories, photographs and family stories with us, so that they are not lost to time.
