Elbasan County – an inland Albanian county centred on the city of Elbasan
Elbasan County is one of the twelve counties of Albania, taking its name and its centre from the city of Elbasan. With an area of 3,199 square kilometres and a population of 232,580 in 2023, it is among the country's more populous counties, and its inland valleys have long served as a passage between the coast and the Albanian interior. That position shaped everyday life here: farming, crafts and trade, and in more recent generations industry, schools and commuting. Today the county combines busy town life with quiet mountain villages, and many families keep ties to both. What do you remember of your town or village? Share your stories with other members.
