South Abaco – the southern district of the Abaco Islands

South Abaco is one of the districts of the Bahamas, covering the southern part of the Abaco Islands. Sandy Point is among its largest settlements and has long been a focal point for the surrounding communities. At the 2010 census the district had 7,646 residents, spread across a number of settlements rather than concentrated in a single town. Life on the Abacos has always been closely tied to the sea, to boatbuilding, fishing and travel between the cays, and to the strong neighbourly ties that small island communities depend on. Today those traditions remain part of everyday life. Share your memories, family stories and old photographs of South Abaco with the community.
