Trashigang – Bhutan's easternmost district

Trashigang, also spelled Tashigang, is the easternmost dzongkhag, or district, of Bhutan. Its position at the far end of the country has long given it a distinct character: it is a meeting point for the eastern valleys and a place where routes, trade and people converge. Like the rest of Bhutan, the district is shaped by mountains, steep valleys and rivers, with farming villages set on terraced slopes and communities that keep their own dialects and customs. Festivals, temples and craftwork remain an important part of the yearly cycle. Today Trashigang combines this rural way of life with steadily improving connections.
