Govi-Altai – Mongolia's most sparsely populated province in the west

Govi-Altai is the least densely populated of Mongolia's 21 aimags, and that single fact explains much about it: great distances between settlements, and communities that have long learned to rely on one another. Its name joins the two landscapes that meet here, the Gobi and the Altai. The capital is Altai City, the hub where schools, markets, offices and services gather for families spread across the west of the country. Today the province remains a place of wide horizons, herding and long roads between neighbours. If you were born here, or came to work or study, tell us what you remember — your stories and photographs are very welcome in this community.
