Bulgan – the province established in 1938 out of Selenge

Bulgan Province was officially established on 15 January 1938, following a decision taken the previous year, when it was separated from Selenge Province. That step gave the region its own administration and the boundaries that shaped everyday life for decades. A second turning point came in 1994, when Orkhon Province was formed out of part of Bulgan's territory and became a province in its own right. The provincial capital shares the name Bulgan, and the aimag lies in the north of the country, on the border with Russia, in a countryside of forest edges, river valleys and pasture.
