Dowa – a district at the heart of Malawi's Central Region

Dowa is a district in the Central Region of Malawi, with its administrative centre in the town of Dowa. Its position in the middle of the country has always made it a place of movement, with roads, markets and people travelling between the central towns and the countryside around them. The boma gathers district offices, schools and trading places serving villages spread across the surrounding farmland, where the farming calendar still shapes the year. Community life runs through churches, village committees, football grounds and the weekly markets. Much of the district's history lives in what families remember rather than in books. Tell us about your village, your school days and the people who shaped them.
