Ntchisi – a Central Region district gathered around its boma
Ntchisi is a district in the Central Region of Malawi, with the town of Ntchisi as its administrative centre. It covers 1,655 square kilometres and has a population of about 317,069, most of whom live in villages and small trading centres rather than in towns. The boma is where district offices, markets and secondary schools draw people in from the surrounding countryside. Farming shapes the calendar, and the dry and rainy seasons still decide much of the working year. Churches, village committees and market days hold community life together. A great deal of the district's past is carried in what elders remember. Share your photographs, family stories and memories of Ntchisi with the community here.
