Ewa – a district in the north of the coral island of Nauru
Ewa lies in the north of Nauru, one of the smallest island nations in the Pacific. Like the rest of the island, the district rests on a raised coral platform ringed by a narrow coastal strip, and it is along that shore that homes, churches and meeting places are gathered. The ocean has shaped daily routines for generations, from fishing and boat work to the rhythm of the trade winds, while the plateau behind the settlements carries the traces of Nauru's phosphate era. Today Ewa remains a quiet, closely knit community. Do you have memories, photographs or family stories from Ewa? Share them here with your neighbours.
