Uaboe – the north-western district also known as Waboe
Uaboe lies in the north-west of Nauru and is also written Waboe, one of the two spellings that neighbours use interchangeably. Like every district of the island, it is a narrow band of coast backed by the higher inland plateau, so houses, gardens and gathering places line the shore road. Fishing, family plots and church life have long given the week its shape, and the sea remains the great constant, bringing weather, food and visitors alike. Today Uaboe is a small community where almost everyone knows everyone. What do you remember of Uaboe as it once was? Post your pictures and stories here.
