Meneng – also written Menen, heart of Meneng constituency
Meneng, also written Menen, is a district of Nauru and lends its name to the surrounding constituency, which sends two representatives to the national parliament in Yaren. That connection has long given the district a voice in island affairs. Geographically it shares the pattern of all Nauruan districts: a narrow, inhabited coastal strip with the raised interior rising behind it, and a reef that has fed families for generations. Schools, churches and sports grounds anchor community life, and the ocean is never more than a short walk away. Today Meneng is one of the island's liveliest neighbourhoods.
