Ngardmau – one of Palau's sixteen states, on western Babeldaob
Ngardmau is one of the sixteen states of Palau and lies on the western side of Babeldaob, between Ngaraard and Ngeremlengui. Its stretch of coast and the forested, hilly interior behind it have long shaped how people live: streams run down from the high ground, gardens are cut into the slopes, and the reef supplies the table. Like its neighbouring states, Ngardmau keeps its own customs, titles and village traditions, passed on within families rather than written down. Today it remains a green, sparsely settled part of the island. What do you remember of Ngardmau, and which stories should not be lost? Share them here.
