La Digue and Inner Islands – an island district of the Seychelles

La Digue and Inner Islands is one of the twenty-six districts of Seychelles and the only one formed by an island together with a scatter of smaller Inner Islands around it. La Digue itself is a granite island whose shore is framed by weathered boulders and coconut palms, and for generations its people have lived from the sea, from garden plots and from the boats that link one island to the next. Creole language, cooking and music shape everyday life here as they do across the archipelago. Today calm and short distances define the district.
