Baie Lazare – the district named after the explorer Lazare Picault
Baie Lazare is an administrative district of Seychelles on the island of Mahé, and it carries in its name the memory of the explorer Lazare Picault, after whom the bay was called. That name is a reminder of the early voyages that first brought the granite islands onto maps, long before permanent settlement took hold. The district grew where the bay meets the hills: fishing boats on the water, gardens and plantation crops on the slopes, and a community held together by church, school and family ties. Today Creole language and cooking remain at its heart. Share your Baie Lazare memories, photographs and family stories with us.
