Cascade – the Mahé district whose name recalls falling water
Cascade is an administrative district of Seychelles on the island of Mahé, and its French name speaks of falling water, of the streams that run down from the island's steep green interior towards the sea. That contrast between mountain and shore has shaped the district: settlement follows the coastal strip and the valleys, while forest covers the heights above. Families here have lived from fishing, garden plots and work along the coast road, and Creole language, cooking and music remain the everyday culture. Today Cascade is a busy district close to the island's main hub. Share your photographs, memories and family stories of Cascade with the community.
