English River – La Rivière Anglaise, a district of Mahé
English River, known in French as La Rivière Anglaise, is an administrative district of Seychelles on the island of Mahé. Its double name is itself a piece of local history, showing how French and English have both left their mark on the islands' place names, while Creole remains the everyday language. The district lies where a watercourse comes down from the green interior to the coast, and settlement grew along that line. Fishing, trades and work in the nearby urban area have long supported families here. Today it is one of the most built-up districts of Mahé.
