Saint Andrew – the coastal parish around Layou

Saint Andrew is one of the administrative parishes of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, on the island of Saint Vincent, with the coastal town of Layou as its capital. It is a compact parish of about 29 square kilometres, home to some 6,700 people according to estimates from the year 2000, small enough that neighbours know one another and village life sets the pace. Sea and land have always provided together here, with fishing along the shore and cultivation on the slopes behind it. Today it remains a quiet, close-knit corner of the island.
